Not including the most heavily armored tanks and vehicles in the military(only some) here are some of the best vehicles out there, that (i think) will be good candidates for post-apocalyptic world transport.

Basically motorhomes in general. The Maximog, Unimog and the other awesome motorhomes over at UNICAT might just be the ones you would wanna have after the current world has ended. Some of the units have a cozy room complete with all the things that you need to live for a few years or so. Feels like a real home, but moves at your command. Some have specialized science facilities and communication systems that help you figure out what caused the Armageddon to occur or you could just use it to help you get an edge over the other scavenging survivors out in the open.Main points - you will need fuel and food. Toyota Land Cruiser and old FJ units have proven to be very durable and efficient vehicles on and off the road. Over the years, people have modified and customized these babies from a normal daily trucks to monster all-terrain vehicles. And because its not as expensive as a presidential armored vehicle, you can spend the extra buck on forticicaton and customization of this vehicle. For sure this thing can take you anywhere you wanna go. I guess this will be a common transport before or after the apocalypse. Go and grab one. One alternative tho is the Land Rover, a worthy transport of the same caliber.DESERT and WASTELAND Buggies - The wasteland is your playground.
After the destruction of cities and the big highrise buildings around you. The world seems empty and after a while you will see vast deserts and barren lands. With lots of different types of road barriers and unusual terrain, you need a vehicle that can traverse this vastness with ease - the buggy. With awesome suspension and solid reinforced frame, this baby is built to survive the extreme "harshness" of the wastelands. You could perhaps take a friend or two to assist you while scouting for some food and fuel. Perhaps one sniper and a machine gunner will give you a better chance of surviving just in case some really hungry zombies infected with the "rage" virus comes running after you at full speed. Bikes of all sorts from Apocalyptic and Post-apocalyptic Madmax movies of the past and feature anime films like Akira, Wonderful Days(Blue Sky), Final Fantasy advent Children, to super hero Ghost rider films, to real-life custom bike designers and enthusiasts from all around the world - there is no denying that a big number of the world population right now love bikes--and most of us are dreaming about riding these babies in the most dangerous and rugged conditions, including of course, the post-apocalyptic world. Not that we dream about becoming some super hero with a skull head that can burst into flames when he gets mad(and yet he laughs mind you) , we just need to have something to move us around across lifeless highways and past the deserted ghost towns of the barren future. Taking a hot girl along for the ride might make the travel worthwhile, just make sure that hitch-hiking gal(with a supermodel body) you took in is not one of those killer lady robbers who just want to get their hands on your resources and fuel supply ... or perhaps she could just be one of those vampires ol' Van Helsing Forgot to hunt-down.HUMMERs n' HUMVEEs - Like nothing else?
Hummers tend to radiate a sense of strength and stability in a vehicle. Most people know that this thing is no normal vehicle. Perhaps the most popular notion about hummers is that it is being used inthe military, and people conclude its a bad-ass. Perhaps one of these monsters just might be the one you need in a post-apocalyptic world. If you could get the military build with a little more firepower and beefed-up armor, it might raise your chances of surviving a bit higher than the rest. It can go around any type of harsh environment and rugged terrains with not much difficulty. But you can't be too safe in a lawless world like the post-apoc. The stronger you are, the more likely you are going to to be attacked. Better hide when you can and put up some camouflage before you become the primary target of the other outlaws of the wasteland.Jeep Wrangler

From the WorldWar 2 up to the present, the trusty ol' Jeepy is still serving mankind. This is perhaps the most common thing that will come to mind if somebody says post-apocalyptic transport. Customized or not, this is a very able machine. It can take you thru difficult terrains and crawl thru rocky mountain trails. A very versatile vehicle. Indeed a worthy transport but keep in mind, its not that big and heavy, so if you get caught in a sea of undead creatures, one push on side and ur gonna be "bye-bye" cruel world. Keep slick and watch out for pathway bottlenecks. You know the drill - keep yourself alive.The Legendary Beetle
Fortify and customize - currently not the name of the game, but will soon be. New beetles are more stylish and nice to look at, chiks love em. But nothing beats the classic. Still in awesome fighting condition is the legendary old beetle. Most of them are static as of the moment but they are just waiting and getting ready for the nextgen apocalypse. These legendary old machines will surely have a place in the post-apocalyptic world. Be careful with sexy ladies that lean by your window. They dont walk the wasteland highways just thinking you are cute. Cute, eh? - a total stranger? c'mon man. They want your fuel and all the food in the storage compartment of your beetle. They know its in front, not at the back trunk. Watch out yo. Take care of your 'thing', If yknow what i mean.Big Trucks
Perhaps the big trucks are there to be modified and customized for post-apocalyptic transport purposes. These heavy big boys have so much power in them. They can carry heavier loads. Perhaps it can be configured to house a high-tech computer with a communications system and an attached radar installation near the back. And to ward off potential attackers, a manned machine gun that can turn an easy 360 deg sweep around the vehicle. You might be thinking its the ultimate machine to save the day, but these boys are limited to run on big spaces. They cant be used to go inside narrow streets if you want look for food or to salvage whats left of a fallen city.All-Terrain Warriors

These machines are built with the highest quality. They are not called motorhomes for nothing. You can literally live in these things and it will feel just like home. Almost everything that you need are already incorporated in the design of these babies. The flagship model has a state-of-the-art suspension system, lots of leveling hydraulics so you can come out clean and easy on even the most difficult terrains. It has a recycled shower waste water system, automatic hydraulic levelling system, 3Kva Honda generator on a slide,washing machine, has solar panels, deep cycle batteries, two plasma TV monitors, automatic satellite positioning dish, marine remote controlled rear spotlight, Reverse cameras, three leather air suspension swivel seats, leather sofa lounge, and a very comprehensive electronic communications, visual and audio system just to name a few. And if the world decides to end in cold weather, then these machines are the way to go. Snow mobiles or normal 4wd trucks with enough power and tires to enable it to move in snow. Its not one brand of truck. I really think anybody can modify their favorite transport machine to adapt to the current needs. When in need, great minds get creative. While the weak minds sit down and cry just waiting to die. In times like this, better to load up some food and fuel, take a portable heater with you, rope and some tools. Flashlights and a couple of batteries. Firesteel, matches or lighter to help build fire quickly. A shovel would helpful just in case your transport gets stuck in really deep snow. Binoculars to see whats ahead of you and load guns and ammo just in case something creepy comes out to block ur way while travelling at night. In case there aint no fuel left and you dont have dogs to drag all of you in a sled, go on foot and find some shelter. A tent can come in handy in case you want to rest once in a while. Good thing aliens can't seem to survive cold weather ... or can they?
